Spring Clean Your Skin

After a wonderful Christmas break and a hard-going January, we’re finally in to February and Spring is fast approaching. This is the perfect time to throw out old clothes you don’t wear anymore, scoop up the Christmas decorations that haven’t yet made their way to the loft and most importantly, to give your skin the attention it needs by giving it a thorough spring clean.

Step 1 : Cleanse

7c7e1f7155d04170babdf8b4a8c6138a

To start the process, simply massage Gatineau’s Refreshing Cleansing Cream on to your damp skin, adding water as necessary. Then rinse the product off and wipe away any excess with the Double Sided Cleansing Cloth. At this stage the dampened cloth is best used on its smooth side. This spring essential is very concentrated so it lasts really well, especially considering its large 250ml size.

Step 2 : Exfoliate

9b4d3403c18f49ae942366540c041444

The Radiance Enhancing Gommage is a pearlised gel which liquefies when massaged in to the skin. Unlike most other exfoliators, there are no harsh beads so it feels like a much gentler exfoliation which would be particularly beneficial to sensitive skin. Leave the product on for 1-2 minutes and rinse off with water using the rough side of the Double Sided Cleansing Cloth. After use, skin feels refreshed, radiant and clean.

Step 3 : Hydrate

Now that your skin has been thoroughly cleansed, it’s important to rehydrate with serums and moisturisers. As everyone’s skin is different it’s important you’re using the right one for you. If you’re battling with dull and dry winter skin, opt for a thick and hydrating cream like the High Hydration Cream Mask. Or if your skin is more on the oily side, try a lighter moisturiser or serum to avoid excess oil production.

Step 4 : Glow

Using these gorgeously-scented products will remove any dead skin and impurities, revealing fresh, new skin underneath, ready to be treated with your favourite moisturising products. Skin will feel radiant and hydrated, and leave you glowing throughout Spring.

Each of the products listed above are for sale individually, or if you’d prefer your own Spring Clean Cleansing Kit complete with a drawstring bag ideal for travel, then you can purchase the entire collection for £40 on the Salon Skincare website.

Gatineau Aquamemory Hydration Collection

As December is upon us and Christmas is fast approaching, we at Salon Skincare thought we’d better give you some Christmas gift inspiration and review the Gatineau Aquamemory Hydration Collection.

The anti-ageing experts at Gatineau have compiled the perfect winter gift set comprising of three lovely products.

The first is the High Hydration Cream Mask. For those that don’t know a hydration mask is essentially a thick moisturiser which you can either wash off after ten minutes or leave on all night. It’s best used at night so you won’t have to worry about your makeup sliding off, but equally you can apply a thin layer during the daytime for an light layer of hydration. The best thing about hydrating masks is that you can apply them as often as  you like. Unlike moisturisers they absorb quickly, so as soon as your first layer has absorbed, you can keep applying more to build up the hydration intensity. After a few days use, dry and flaky winter skin becomes completely non-existent.

The second gorgeous product is the Moisture Replenish Eye Roll-on. This thin, fast-absorbing product is easy to apply and provides the perfect amount of hydration for under-eye skin. You can apply the product twice a day, once in the morning pre-makeup application and once at night before bed. The cooling formula penetrates skin almost instantly, meaning your skin won’t feel heavy and clogged. Use daily for bright eyes as well as reduced dark circles and puffiness.

The third and final product is the Moisture Replenish Cream Gel. This moisturiser is perfect for night time use. It’s almost mousse-like texture allows it to glide on to skin and spread evenly over your face and neck. As with all Gatineau products it smells delightful and feels so luxurious. With its hydrating, nourishing and restorative properties, it’s the perfect product to cure any winter skin worries.

Since ’tis the season to spread love and kindness, we’ve launched a sitewide 20% off code with no minimum spend. Just enter DEC20 at the checkout and get yourself some perfect skin!

A Little Luxury from Gatineau

untitled-1

This Christmas Gatineau are blessing us with over ten Christmas gift sets and I was fortunate enough to be invited to try out two of them. The first, and perhaps my favourite is the Little Luxuries Collection.

Each of the seven staple products are encased in white and grey packaging, stamped with the signature Gatineau logo and labelled with a subtle silvery typeface. Wrapped in gorgeous Gatineau paper and housed in a baby-pink sparkly case, this gift set includes every skincare essential and makes for the perfect Christmas gift.

Often when gift sets have a large number of products in them, the products tend to be so small that it’s hard to feel the full effects of them. This, however, is not the case with the Little Luxuries Collection.  Each sample ranges from 15ml to 50ml meaning there’s enough of each cosmetic for each one to be fully appreciated. Gift sets also make an ideal gift when you’re unsure of what to buy. Since there are multiple products, it’s likely the user will take to a few especially well, which will end up taking up a permanent residency in their makeup bag.

The collection is small enough to pop in your overnight bag, it has everything you’ll need to carry out your night-time skincare routine, and all samples are under 100ml so you can even take them in your hand luggage, making it the perfect gift for a jet setter.

I’ve listed each of the products below and popped the link in the title (underlined) for the ones which are available to purchase in full size individually.

Gentle Eye Make-Up Remover 50ml

Removes eye make-up easily and quickly without leaving an oily residue on the skin. Although it smells potent, it’s a really gentle product which works on even the toughest mascaras.

Anti-Wrinkle Radiance Mask 15ml

Apply a thick layer to skin and leave on for ten minutes. Either dab off the excess or leave overnight for an intense moisture boost.

Refreshing Cleansing Cream 50ml

Apply to damp skin on your face and neck and rub in circular motions until the entire face is covered, then rinse off with more water to leave your skin feeling fresh, clean and oil-free.

Collagene Expert Smoothing Eye Pads

On application these eye pads give off a cooling sensation which feels so soothing on the delicate under-eye skin. After removing the pads and wiping away excess gel, eye contour feels nourished, soft and soothed.

Revolumising Lip Care 10ml

This thick hydrating gel moisturises lips and leaves them looking glossy and plumped. Gently tingling as it works you can feel it reaching the innermost dry patches.

Radiance Enhancing Gommage 15ml

This unique product glides on to dry skin and smells so luxurious. Once the product has spread evenly over the skin and left a tacky residue, rinse off with water to refresh and awake skin. It’s the first exfoliator I’ve used without beads and the only one which isn’t too harsh for my skin.

Advanced Rejuvinating Cream 15ml

This ultra-thick moisturiser makes for the perfect night cream, providing a boost to any dull/dry skin.

Described as the ideal way to discover Gatineau, the Little Luxuries Collection offers everything you could wish for in a Christmas gift set and more. My favourites from the collection are the gentle eye makeup remover, revolumising lip care and the radiance enhancing gommage. As soon as I run out of each of them, I’ll be repurchasing them in full-size and they’ll be occupying a permanent slot in my personal skincare collection. Thank you Gatineau for my favourite Christmas gift set yet.

3 Taboo Skincare Ingredients That Really Work!

 cxRrCyUUBI1i3bO1H3nNe1IiDBjy0152nt5XRj5mFeE

skinChemists go beyond ordinary skincare with their unconventional yet very effective ingredients. Have you ever thought about slathering snake venom or bee venom on your face? How about Argentinian bovine placenta? Well we’re here to take you on a journey through these ingredients so you can understand their fabulous skincare benefits.

  1. Snake Venom – Syn© -Ake
This is a synthetic form of snake venom which works in 3 steps to freeze, firm and hydrate the skin. Syn-ake replicates the effects of a peptide known as Waglerin 1, which is found in the venom of the poisonous Temple Viper snake. It’s designed to work a lot like Botox (minus the needles), so cell movement and muscular contractions are reduced, ultimately keeping your skin smooth and wrinkle free. The effects are fast-acting and long-lasting, but the product has to be used continually as the effects are temporary.
  2. Bee Venom
There is nothing synthetic about the bee venom, it’s the real thing! But have no fear, it’s ethically and sustainably sourced. The bees sting a pane of glass, leaving venom behind without extracting their sting, so they don’t die. The bee venom tricks the skin into thinking it has been stung, which causes the body to direct blood towards the area and stimulate your natural production of collagen and elastin. Collagen strengthens your skin while elastin is the protein that helps your skin remain taut, firm and youthful. It improves texture and firmness, visibly reducing pores, fine lines, wrinkles, pigmentation and sun damage.
  3. Argentinian Bovine Placenta
And now for the placenta, which is perhaps the most taboo of them all (and entirely ethically sourced too of course)!  Rich in vitamins, amino acids and minerals, placenta is known for its targeted action on the skin. Its rich source of nutritional elements boosts skin cell reproduction and stimulates the growth of fibroblasts and epidermis within your skin which produce collagen, hyaluronic acid and elastin. Iron improves oxygen absorption by the skin cells and vitamins eliminate free radical damage which causes premature ageing. Your skin is left clear, plump and youthful.

So if you had any reservations about these unique, yet powerful ingredients, hopefully this has settled your mind and enlightened you to the brilliant benefits for your skin.

PS fun fact – Kate Middleton and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall are known to be fans of bee venom treatments!

4 Products For Sensitive Skin

Our guest beauty blogger, Ella Ryder, has been at it again! This time she’s sharing her top products for those sensitive skin types out there.

Sensitive skin types can often be overlooked by the beauty industry, with acne-prone skin and anti-ageing solutions taking the spotlight. For those of you with sensitive skin, I’m here to show you a few products that should help any irritation or redness that you might be prone to:

  1. Decléor Energising Gel, 150 ml £36.00. This green gel locks in moisture without being sticky and works to repair the skin cells from damage, such as stretch marks or scarring. It can be used on the face or body and if you use it everyday, you’ll definitely notice a difference in the overall firmness of the skin. I’ve chosen this as a sensitive skin product because it helps fade imperfections in a gentle way, as opposed to using exfoliating acids which is the most common way to treat issues like scarring.
  2. Elemis S.O.S Survival Cream, 50 ml, £52.50. When you are having an S.O.S moment with your skin, this is what you need. I wrote a entire blog post on how it helped my skin here. Don’t be scared by the balm texture; just use a small amount and warm it in your hands before gently patting onto the offending areas. Then leave it to work its magic overnight. Lavender, chamomile and eucalyptus are the key soothing ingredients in this. I recommend having this on standby if you’re prone to redness and sensitivity as it works almost immediately. I must admit I only have a small tube of the men’s version at the moment (don’t ask!) but they both work equally well.
  3. Elemis Herbal Lavender Repair Mask, 75 ml, £30.00. This is one of my favourite face masks for when my skin is feeling unbalanced. For an intense treatment, use this before applying the S.O.S Cream and you’ll be amazed at the transformation. Again, the lavender is essential to calming the skin. I love this because it doesn’t dry hard like a lot of masks. In fact, it pretty much sinks into the skin making it undetectable to anyone else. Sometimes I even forget I have it on! Even if you have oily skin this is great at helping to balance the skin without stripping it of its natural oils.
  4. Nuxe Comforting Cleansing Milk, 200 ml, £14.00. I’m using this as my main cleanser at the moment because it leaves my skin feeling so soft and is really effective at removing make-up. |Double-cleansing in the evening is really important if you wear make-up, so I use one pump to remove face and eye make-up, rinse and then re-apply for a more thorough clean. The instructions say you can use this without water but I feel much cleaner using it. If you’re having unexplained problems with your skincare routine, always start with the cleanser because it’s the most important step. This is very affordable and smells like a combination of rose and coconut oil, which would explain the pretty pink colour.
